Transportation

Mastatal is 2.5 hours from Costa Rica's capital city and main international airport, SJO.  All participants need to arrive at Villas Mastatal by 5pm on the first day of the retreat (check in will start at 2pm) and checkout will be at 11am on the last day of the retreat. You can book a direct ride from San Jose to the farm with us, take the bus, or drive (directions here). Regardless of your mode of transportation, please let us know how you will be arriving and at what time.

Private transportation from the airport to Mastatal is typically $150 each way but we are offering $50 each way for residency guests. There will be a pick up at 12pm on the Sunday the residency starts at Hotel Finca Escalante in San Jose. We recommend either flying in the day before and spending the night in San Jose or taking an early morning flight. For returns on the Saturday that the residency ends, we will depart from Mastatal at 10am, so should get into San Jose around 12:30pm. We are flexible and can drop off guests at different locations including San Jose hotels, bus stops to get to other parts of Costa Rica, or the airport.

Mastatal is accessible via Costa Rica's public bus system from San Jose, Quepos, Puriscal, and more. You can find more info on how to get to the farm on the bus here. Taking the bus from San Jose to the farm requires 2 buses, the first is a little more than $1USD and the second $2USD. We ask that guests arrive to the farm by 5pm on the first day to settle in before dinner.
